Synopsis

In the 1990s, Idrees Babu left his home in the fragile coral Lakshadweep Islands to study marine biology, unaware that his journey would become vital for his community’s survival. The islands, located in the Arabian Sea, face growing threats from rising ocean temperatures, intensified storms, and environmental degradation caused by tourism and local practices like coral mining. Idrees dedicates his days to educating and training his community—young and old alike—about conservation. Alongside his locally-trained team, he runs a coral nursery and travels between islands to promote awareness and protect the ecosystem. In a world where Lakshadweep is barely known internationally, Idrees and his people are strengthening local networks to combat climate change and preserve their unique way of life against mounting global challenges.
